A Dade City man wounded in a shooting on Monday has died, and the suspect in the attack now faces a charge of first-degree murder.

Arturo Escamilla, 24, and Carlos Hiracheta Perez, 28, got into an argument about 5:30 p.m. Sunday at a vacant home on 14900 block of Dade Street, according to an arrest affidavit.

Perez then fired two shots from a Colt .45-caliber semi-automatic pistol into the head of the Escamilla, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office. Perez and two witnesses struggled over the pistol, which was taken away from Perez.

Perez fled the scene but was later detained by Dade City police, the sheriff’s office said.

Escamilla, of 14918 Dade Street, Dade City, died Tuesday morning at Bayonet Point Hospital, the sheriff’s office said.

Perez, of 37009 Old San Ann Road, Dade City who had been arrested on a charge of attempted murder, now faces a charge of first-degree murder. He is being held in the Land O’Lakes jail on $100,00 bond.
