A Marion County woman was killed Thursday morning in a crash on southbound Interstate 275 just south of the Interstate 75 split and the Hillsborough-Pasco county line, troopers said.
The crash occurred at 8:54 a.m. and involved two vehicles traveling south, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
According to the FHP, 54-year-old Laura Ellen Greco of Ocklawaha was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Blazer southbound at a high rate of speed in the inside travel lane on I-275 when she lost control
Greco lost control and crossed into the outside lane, striking a 2013 Hyundai Elantra driven by 59-year-old James P. Snyder of Zephyrhills.
Both vehicles then traveled off the roadway, onto the outside grass shoulder and overturned before colliding with several trees, the FHP said
Greco died at the scene, investigators said, and Snyder suffered minor injuries.
Both vehicles overturned and one of the drivers died at the scene, investigators said.
Southbound I-275 north of the split was closed for about an hour, but all but one lane has been reopened, troopers said. The outside lane in the immediate area of the crash remained closed at 10 a.m.
Northbound interstate traffic was not affected, authorities said.
