Crafters bring comfort to kids

Children going into surgery at the Shriner’s Hospital for Children — Tampa will be comforted by a soft pillow and a get-well wish thanks to the Humana Charity Crafters at the Humana Guidance Center in Zephyrhills.

The Humana Charity Crafters donated about 200 handmade no-sew fleece pillows along with customized get-well cards made by the volunteer crafters to the Tampa hospital in a presentation at the Humana Guidance Center in Zephyrhills last week. The pillows will be given to children before surgery.

Humana Charity Crafters is made up of about 40 volunteers who meet at the Humana guidance center, said Humana Guidance Center activity coordinator Jennifer Pidala. The project took about a month-and-a-half. The project was started by a Humana member and an employee who had children admitted to the hospital and knew of the hospital’s practice to give a gift to children before surgery, Pidala said.

The crafters are just one of the group activities offered free at the Humana Guidance Center. Pidala said they are always open to suggestions for charitable projects For more information about Humana or to suggest a project call (813) 780-7300.
