A large cold front is headed to the Gulf of Mexico and will likely bring some rain for the weekend, according to News Channel 8 meteorologist Steve Jerve.
But, he said the forecast looks good for celebrating the New Year.
There will be some remaining showers in the Tampa Bay area tonight
For Thursday, the day will start cool and a bit windy with a morning high of 48 before warming to the daily high of 63 in the afternoon, Jerve said.
"It should be a nice day but a little bit cool for this time of year," he said. Highs should be near 59 in New Port Richey, 60 in St. Petersburg and 65 in Sarasota.
The high rises to 70 on Friday, but the low is 48, he said.
The chance of rain for Saturday rises to 60 percent, Jerve said, and then more cooler air will follow that.
The skies should be mostly sunny for New Year's Eve and the next day, with highs in the mid-70s and lows in the upper 50s.
