WESLEY CHAPEL -

Fine Arts of the Suncoast will hold its seventh annual Suncoast Arts Festival on Jan. 19-20 at The Shops at Wiregrass.

The Suncoast Arts Festival began in 2005 with 53 artists at the Longleaf Town Center in the Trinity area. The festival subsequently moved across southern Pasco and now is planned for the Wesley Chapel mall.

It was not held in 2006 so the committee had plenty of time to revamp activities and presentations at the new location.

Some 110 artists exhibited work at the 2012 festival.

New features and surprises are being added for the 2013 event, but favorite activities, such as entertainment, chalk artists, a Kids' Art Garden and Emerging Artists will return.

On Wiregrass' Town Center stage, "Random Acts for the Arts" will feature outstanding music, from jazz to 1960s and '70s rock to blues, throughout the weekend.

"Late Night Brass" will make three appearances Saturday, including a free two-hour "Celebration Concert" beginning at 6:30 p.m.

During the weekend, the artists will be judged on their art, and winners will be announced and presented cash awards. In addition, proceeds from last year's event totaling more than $10,000 will be presented to grant recipients on behalf of Art for Kids to supplement arts education funding in public, private and charter schools in Pasco County.

The One Mile Suncoast Run for the Arts, which debuted last year, will be held on the morning of Jan. 20 this year.

The run benefits local arts programs for kids, including student and teacher scholarships and classroom grants. Artwork will be awarded to overall male and overall female runners with additional awards going to first male student and first female student. Ribbons will be given to all finishers.

Free T-shirts are guaranteed for those registered by Jan. 14. The preregistration fee is $20; late registration costs $25. T-shirts cannot be guaranteed for late registrations.

Packet pickup and late registrations are Jan. 19 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Suncoast Arts Fest tent at The Shops at Wiregrass, in front of Macy's.

Participants can preregister at www.suncoastartsfest.com.

There will be a pancake breakfast after the race benefiting Arts for Kids in Pasco County.
