Police are searching for a man who knocked on the door of an 86-year-old man in New Port Richey early this morning and stole his car.

The suspect approached the home in the 6600 block of Trichel Lane at 3:19 a.m., police said.

The home's owner believed it was someone he knew and began to open the door, police said.

The suspect demanded the man's car and personal items and fled in his 1998 Chevrolet Malibu, police said.

The elderly man was not injured.

The suspect was wearing a hooded shirt or pullover. The light blue, four-door Malibu has a damaged left headlight and a green license plate on the front with the words "Super K." It has missing fog lights and the tag number is X683JY.

Anyone who sees the vehicle should call police at 727-841-4552.
