Animal control officials give warning to Land O' Lakes resident

Pasco County Animal Services gave a warning to a Land O' Lakes resident Tuesday for having too many animals at his home.

Officials said the man was a former dog breeder and was not licensed to have a large number of dogs at his residence at 20118 Millet Lane in Land O' Lakes. The man had about 40 small-breed dogs, as well as several goats, geese, rabbits and chickens in the back yard.

“It's not a case of hoarding,” Animal Services Director Michael Shumate said. “The animals are all well taken care of and the house is clean.”

Pasco County allows a maximum of nine animals per household in residential zones. Shumate said the man has 30 days to find new homes for his animals or move.
