A Wesley Chapel man was arrested Saturday for beating a teenager who stole his car and then returned it, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.
The 15-year-old admitted to stealing Joseph Esgro Jr.’s car from his Warwick Hills Drive home. When the teen returned the car at 11 a.m. Friday, Esgro, 46, punched him in the mouth and on the temple, according to the arrest report.
The relationship between Esgro and the teenager was not provided in the arrest report.
On Saturday, Esgro, who is a sergeant in the Army, struck the boy with a pencil, leaving a small cut on his left bicep and a puncture wound on his left shin, just below the knee, the report states.
Esgro also hit the teen on the left forearm with a motorcycle helmet Saturday, the report states.
The teen, who had bruising on his head and cuts on his lip, was treated at the scene by fire rescue personnel.
Esgro was arrested Saturday afternoon and charged with child abuse. He was released from Land O’ Lakes Jail Saturday night after posting $5,000 bail.
