Turning backyards into playgrounds is child’s play for local business

Woodplay of Tampa Bay offers home playground equipment that is safer and of higher quality than tubular metal A frame swing sets of the past, and “better quality than you’ll find at big box stores,” according to company co-owner Nicole Gulledge.

Gulledge and husband Jason opened Woodplay of Tampa Bay 15 years ago in the Citrus Park area, but have since moved to a spacious indoor showroom at 3744 W. Lambright St.

“We have two different product lines: the Woodplay play sets and ChildLife play sets, both of which are made by Woodplay,” Gulledge explains. “The Woodplay play sets are made of 100 percent redwood and manufactured in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The ChildLife playsets are replicas of the Woodplay play sets, but are made from cedar and imported. Both product lines are fully customizable and expandable and come with a lifetime warranty.”

If a customer has young children, they could choose a play set that has a slide, a fort and swings.

“As the children get older, parents can add other elements, such as monkey bars, a rock wall, a fire pole, a trapeze or other accessories,” Gulledge said.

Woodplay playsets are sturdy, held together with heavy-duty nuts and bolts, but the wood is thoroughly sanded and the corners are rounded for a safe finish.

“The wood is very big and beefy, so mom and dad can play on the swings and slides with their children,” Gulledge adds.

Woodplay of Tampa Bay offers customers a variety of add-ons to customize the play set, including swings for tots as well as older children, a two-person glider swing, a tire swing, bubble panels, a multifunction picnic table, climbing ramps and a hammock swing chair, that is a favorite of parents and children.

“The hammock swing hangs from the play set so that parents can sit in it or lay back and read while the kids are playing,” Gulledge says. “Kids love to nestle inside the hammock.”

Woodplay of Tampa Bay carries a large assortment of backyard fun items, including ziplines, heavy-duty basketball hoop sets, a baseball batting, pitching and catching trainer, and soccer nets, as well as Springfree trampolines.

The Springfree trampolines incorporate flexible fiberglass rods instead of springs, which give a soft, non-jarring bounce and are located out of the way, under the bounce surface.

Along with the wide variety of play sets and accessories, Woodplay of Tampa Bay sells high-quality playhouses that would make any child the envy of the neighborhood.

“They are really cute,” Gulledge says of the playhouses.

“They are completely painted and sealed, with simulated hardwood floors and operable windows with screens. They feature real shingled roofs, a skylight and a small working air conditioner. There is a ladder that leads up to a loft where kids can have a sleep-over.”

Woodplay of Tampa Bay has pretty much everything parents could want to provide their children with a safe and fun outdoor play area, right in their own backyard.
