HorsePower fundraiser includes hayride, bonfire and Santa

OLDSMAR – Armando Gort knows how to put on a party.

The director of HorsePower for Kids is hosting his third annual Christmas Story Fundraiser on Dec. 13-14, and Dec. 20-21 at his farm on Racetrack Road. The events will run from 6 to 9 p.m. Admission is $10 for kids and $6 for adults, and there is plenty to do.

Gort said that there will be a live full-scale Nativity performance, a hayride, a bonfire, a marshmallow roast, interactive animal areas and more. Of course, Santa Claus will be making an appearance.

There is also a wreath decorating contest with cash prizes to the top three finishers.

“We look forward to this every year,” Gort said. “We spend a lot of time on this and it gets bigger every year.”

There is still time to volunteer. Gort’s farm relies on volunteers and he doesn’t do it for the money. Mostly he does it, he said, to give kids a chance to experience farm life when they wouldn’t get the chance otherwise.

High school students tend to be the main volunteers, but Gort will take on volunteers younger than 16 as long as they bring their parents along.

Incarnation Catholic Church will be a big benefactor of the event, receiving 20 percent of all proceeds.

HorsePower for Kids is located at 8005 S. Race Track Road. For information on volunteering, call (813) 855-8992.
