TAMPA – The kids at the Westchase Recreation Center spent much of the holiday season helping out with the Children’s Home on Memorial Highway.

The center donated 75 coloring books in time for the holidays to the Children’s Home, which serves more than 15,000 children and families throughout the Tampa Bay area.

The Children’s Home is a child and family centered organization that cares for children looking for the comfort of a loving family. It is intended to provide a safe haven for kids who have suffered abuse, neglect, or abandonment.

At its facility at 10909 Memorial Highway, the campus was filled with decorations and holiday activities. They got to meet Santa Claus, bake cookies, design holiday crafts, and took horse and carriage rides. And, they got a chance to design a real Christmas tree.

The Children’s Home also is in need of volunteers and donations.

“When you provide donations to the Children’s Home you help reverse the cycle of poverty within our community,’’ said Rachelle Gyurke, in-kind donations and volunteer recruitment manager. “The road isn’t always easy.’’

She added that the key is to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable children.

For information on volunteering or donating to the Children’s Home, call (813) 855-4435.
