The military-oriented USAA bank and insurance giant is on a hiring binge in Tampa.
The company hopes to add 160 new workers through March, primarily at its savings bank's mortgage and fulfillment, and underwriting operations.
About 60 of the positions have just been filled, company officials said, and the remaining 100 would be hired through March.
Additionally, USAA will hire about 60 seasonal employees in Tampa to support its property and casualty insurance and banking operations during the second and third quarters of 2011.
"USAA is experiencing strong growth as more members than ever turn to us to be their trusted financial provider," said David Bohne, president of USAA Federal Savings Bank said in a prepared statement. "This expansion will allow us to add staff to our mortgage department to help ensure exceptional customer service during even the busiest home-buying seasons."
USAA, based in San Antonio, Texas, specializes in financial services to current and former members of the military services. The company has had operations in Tampa since the 1970s.
In late 2009 and through 2010, USAA added banking and financial advice operations to its Tampa campus, hiring nearly 200 employees. That brings local employment to more than 2,000.
New workers will be posted temporarily at a location 14 miles south of the current office along Interstate 75 until renovations are complete at the company's main site near Bruce B. Downs Boulevard.
