TEMPLE TERRACE -

A church fire on Tuesday was likely arson and two 12-year-old boys could be charged with starting the blaze, Temple Terrace officials said.

The fire at Perfected Love International Fellowship, 10960 N. 56th St., caused an estimated $4,500 in damage to the roof and sign, fire officials said.

Temple Terrace firefighters were called to the church at 9:19 p.m. Tuesday and found flames on the roof, Fire Chief Keith Chapman said in a news release.

Police officers located two boys standing around a separate rubbish fire behind the building, the news release said.

The youths were detained for questioning and are in the custody of their parents, pending charges, officials said.

The state fire marshal’s office was called in to investigate.

Preliminary findings indicated arson was the cause of the blaze.
