We’re calling it — Florida State’s Jameis Winston, the Heisman Trophy winner, is the best freshman QB in NCAA history. That status will be punctuated if the Seminoles defeat Auburn tonight to capture the BCS national title. With Winston in his own class, here are our choices for the next 10 most accomplished freshman quarterbacks since the NCAA restored freshman eligibility in 1972.

Player School Season Comment

1. Johnny Manziel Texas A&M 2012 First freshman Heisman winner; passed for 3,419 yards and rushed for 1,181

3. Michael Vick Virginia Tech 1999 Guided Hokies to 11-0 mark and Sugar Bowl bid against FSU

4. Marcus Mariota Oregon 2012 Overshadowed by Manziel; still passed for 30 TDs, just 6 interceptions

5. Bernie Kosar Miami 1983 Redshirt freshman was a catalyst behind UM’s improbable national title

6. Jamielle Holloway Oklahoma 1985 Option threat was only true freshman to lead team to national title
