Hillsborough County Fire Rescue firefighters extricated two women tonight from a car after they lost control and crashed in a wooded area off of Interstate 75.

The women were transported to Tampa General Hospital in fair condition, a fire rescue spokesman said.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at around 6:15 p.m. off of I-75 just north of the Gibsonton Drive exit.

For unknown reasons, the driver lost control of the vehicle and went into the woods. The vehicle rolled over and crashed into a large tree, trapping the two women inside, a fire rescue spokesman said.

Firefighters were able to extricate the women. They were treated at the scene and then transported by ambulance to Tampa General, a fire rescue spokesman said.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
