Two people died as the result of an ultralight crash Sunday at Winter Haven Airport.
Susanne Broadbelt, 60, of Zephyrhills, died at the crash site, and Gary Lawrence, 61, of Inverness, died at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, according to the Winter Haven Police Department.
About 11:20 a.m., the Airborne Windsport experimental aircraft was performing touch-and-go maneuvers when it struck the ground, flipped and slid about 168 feet, police said.
There was a reported wind gust of 30 to 35 mph that could have played a factor in the crash, police said.
The FAA responded to the scene and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate to determine the cause of the crash, police said.
