TAMPA — People lodged 2,627 complaints with the local bus system during calendar year 2014, according to documents released to the Tribune by Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority.
The complaints run more than 370 pages, and you can read through all of them here — or use your Internet browser’s search function to target certain words or phrases.
You might be interested to know, for example, that the word sleep appears 29 times in the list, smoke or smoking 27 times, and beer eight times.
It may take a minute for the document to download.
The list covers many HART operations and employee groups, which includes commuter service, local service, services for people with disabilities and the TECO Line Streetcar.
The stories told in the complaints range from romance to violence.
“Patron states that she and her girlfriend were put off the bus for kissing. She added that a supervisor told her that the video was reviewed and they were too touchy-feely on the bus. She would like to know HART’s rule on kissing on the bus.”
“Patron states while on the bus another patron assaulted him and stole his bike.”
Tampa police were called in on that one.
These unedited complaints represent only one side of the story, of course, and often are fired off by people who are upset. HART says its own GPS and video technology shows many are plain wrong.
Still, the agency relies upon the list to target areas of customer service that are in need of improvement.
