Women seriously hurt after crashing into Tampa day care

A car crashed into a Tampa day care early today, seriously injuring the two women in the vehicle and leaving a gaping hole in the building.

Police said the crash caused significant damage to the Achievement Center for Early Living, 4609 E. Busch Blvd. According to reports, the day care will not be open for business today.

The car was traveling west on Busch just before 3:45 a.m. when, for unknown reasons, the driver lost control and it skidded across the concrete median, police said. The vehicle then crossed the eastbound lanes and crashed into the front of the building, police said.

The women in the car — one in her early 20s and another in her early 30s — were transported to Tampa General Hospital as trauma alerts, police said.

The day care was closed at the time of the crash.

The facility serves children ages 1 to 5, including pre-k and kindergarten, and also hosts before- and after-school care for elementary school children, according to its website.

Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
