Plant City man dies in crash

Published:

A Plant City man died Sunday as the result of injuries suffered when another driver ran a red light and struck him Saturday afternoon.

Polk County deputies say Arthur Ingram, 84, was driving a 2008 Nissan Sentra on Rice Road, and attempting to turn on northbound County Line Road, around 2:50 p.m. when he was struck by a 2010 Nissan Xterra driven by 44-year-old Derek McGowen, of Lakeland

Deputies say McGowen failed to stop at a red light and struck Ingram in the intersection.

Ingram, who deputies say was not wearing a seat belt, was expelled from the car.

Ingram was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center, where he died Sunday night, deputies say.

McGowen’s SUV flipped onto its side, but he was not injured, deputies say.

Neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the crash, deputies say, but charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
