The driver of a pickup truck was in critical condition after he ran a red light and hit a Hillsborough County school bus Thursday morning, officials said.
None of the four students on the bus were injured, police said. The bus driver also reported no injuries, school district spokeswoman Tanya Arja said.
The bus was headed to Carrollwood Elementary School when the collision occurred at Broad Street and Central Avenue, Arja said.
The students were released to their parents, she said.
The bus was traveling west on Broad and a GMC Sonoma was going north on Central when the wreck occurred at 6:44 a.m., police said. The driver of the Sonoma ran a red light at the intersection and drove into the side of the bus, police said.
The driver of the Sonoma was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in critical condition, police said. He has not been identified.
