A Lakeland woman was killed Sunday morning after her Jeep hit two trees on Interstate 275 in Pinellas County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Mackenzie R. Williams, 24, was driving a 1997 Jeep north in the inside lane of I-275, north of Gandy Boulevard, about 5:30 a.m., troopers said.

She changed to the outside lane and lost control of the vehicle, which rotated off the road and struck two trees on the east shoulder, the highway patrol said in an updated report released Monday.

Williams was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, the updated report said. Her passenger, Jeremy G. Riley, 24, of Lakeland, was restrained, troopers said.

Both were taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.

Williams later died from injuries sustained in the crash, the highway patrol said. Riley sustained minor injuries.

The updated report said the crash was alcohol-related.
