TAMPA — Heading to the Gasparilla Music Festival this weekend to see some of the dozens of bands, including headliner The Flaming Lips?
You might want to plan on some extra time if you’re getting there from southbound Interstate 275. The 45-A exit for Ashley Drive will be closed from 11:30 p.m. Friday until 5:30 a.m. Monday for maintenance work, said John McShaffrey, spokesman for the Florida Department of Transportation.
The agency has detour signs to help southbound I-275 motorists trying to get to downtown Tampa.
Drivers can still take exit 45-A but will have to head right on Doyle Carlton Drive instead of merging onto Ashley. Motorists will then take a right on Henderson Avenue, a right on Tampa Street and a right on Tyler Street that leads to Ashley Drive.
Also closed over the weekend will be the entrance ramp on Ashley Drive to southbound I-275. The entrance ramp on Ashley Drive to northbound I-275 will remain open, he said.
Event organizers know of the road work and have worked with DOT to help motorists get to the festival.
Festival organizers have $10 parking available at The Heights, 1910 Ola Ave., where a shuttle will take people from the parking area to Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park. The all-day shuttles also will return people to their vehicles. There will be a bike valet available at the music festival front entrance, and the In-Town Trolley will be in operation Saturday and Sunday.
