Congestion on Interstate 275 west of downtown Tampa could get ugly this weekend when construction crews shut down some interchanges and bottleneck northbound traffic coming over the Howard Frankland Bridge.
The Florida Department of Transportation issued several advisories outlining which off-ramps and entrance ramps will be shut down and when some of the northbound lanes will be closed to allow crews to work safely.
Here is a list of advisories and suggested detours:
◆ One of three lanes will be closed on northbound I-275 between State Road 60 (Memorial Highway) and Dale Mabry Highway from 8 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. today. The timing likely won’t impede traffic returning from the Tampa Bay Rays game, which is scheduled for a 4:10 p.m. start. All traffic will detour off northbound I-275 at Kennedy Boulevard, from 11:30 p.m. today to 5:30 a.m. Sunday. Drivers will be directed to head east on Kennedy Boulevard to Dale Mabry, where they can turn left and go north on Dale Mabry to re-enter northbound I-275. Drivers can expect some extra congestion and delays during the detour and lane closures tonight into Sunday morning. Motorists may want to consider alternate routes.
◆ The northbound I-275 exit to Dale Mabry Highway was closed Thursday night and will remain closed until Sunday morning. Northbound motorists on the interstate should use the Kennedy Boulevard exit to get to areas west of Dale Mabry or the Armenia Avenue exit for areas east of Dale Mabry. Kennedy Boulevard or Cypress Street can be used to reach Dale Mabry after exiting at either interchange.
◆ The West Shore Boulevard entrance ramp onto northbound I-275 will be closed from 8 p.m. today to early or midmorning Sunday. The suggested detour: Motorists should take Kennedy Boulevard or Cypress Street east to Dale Mabry, then go north on Dale Mabry to the entrance ramp at that interchange.
◆ The eastbound State Road 60 (Memorial Highway) entrance ramp onto northbound I-275 will be closed from 8 p.m. today to early or midmorning Sunday. Drivers can continue east onto Kennedy Boulevard to Dale Mabry, turn left and head north to the Dale Mabry Highway entrance ramp to northbound I-275.
