A 37-year-old Tampa woman died Thursday morning after her motorcycle collided with a van near St. Joseph’s Hospital, police said.

Charrise Tosha Griffith-Melendez, of 7703 Gray Moss Lane, died at St. Joseph’s, where she was taken after the crash, police said.

About 8 a.m., she was traveling south on Habana Avenue in the outside lane, then switched to the inside lane as she collided with a van driven by 76-year-old Enrique Acosta, police said.

At the time, Acosta was turning north out of the Legend Oaks Apartments, 4714 Habana Ave., police said.

Acosta, of 4504 N. Rome Ave., No. 312, was not injured, police said.

The wreck shut down Habana, north of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and east of the hospital, for about two hours after the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
