Drivers hurt after rollover on I-275

Two drivers were injured and one them was ticketed this afternoon after an attempt to change lanes on Interstate 275 caused a rollover, temporarily closing several lanes of the highway .

About 1:06 p.m., Mark Steven Potter, 29, was driving a 2006 Nissan pickup northbound on Interstate 275 south of Ashley Drive when he tried to move into the center lane, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Potter lost control and began to spin in front of Stefani Salazar, 21, who was driving in a 1999 BMW.

As a result of the maneuver, the BMW struck the driver’s side of the pickup and overturned, while the pickup struck the center median wall, FHP said.

The median crash knocked down a light pole onto 1993 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by Fernando Barragan, 39, which was southbound in the inside lane of I-275, according to FHP.

The crash closed multiple lanes of I-275 in both directions, FHP said, but all lanes re-opened at 2:15 p.m.

Salazar was taken to Tampa General Hospital with minor injuries.

Potter, who also suffered minor injuries, was ticketed for failure to use due care.
