TAMPA — The Department of Transportation will close the Dale Mabry Highway exit off Interstate 275 South next week to help the reconstruction of the highway move forward faster.
The exit will close at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to DOT spokesman John McShaffrey. It will reopen in September.
“This ramp closure will be an inconvenience to the many motorists who use that exit driving to work, business, and shopping and entertainment venues in that area,” McShaffrey said in a statement. “However, this four-month closure has been determined to be the more practical way to reconstruct the ramp and adjacent construction area.”
Closing the ramp completely for construction will let crews rebuild the exit and build an exit for Cypress Street, he said.
The closing will also let the DOT reopen the exit sooner and have fewer interruptions as construction continues, he said.
The DOT says southbound drivers who normally use the Dale Mabry exit should use the Himes Avenue exit (a left exit), then go south on Himes and west on Cypress to reach Dale Mabry.
