A Tampa man faces a careless driving charge after his flatbed tractor-trailer overturned Tuesday morning, dumping a load of sod onto westbound Interstate 4 and tying up traffic heading into downtown Tampa.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 41-year-old Oscar A. Pereira was transporting pallets of sod just before 6 a.m. when he lost control on the ramp to southbound I-275

Periera’s trailer overturned, traveled across the outside lane and onto the outside shoulder, dumping the sod onto the roadway, the highway patrol said.

Lanes reopened around 8 a.m., but traffic still remained congested during the morning.
