Northbound lanes on Interstate 75 in Sarasota have reopened after a multi-vehicle crash this morning involving a fuel tanker, officials said.

Sarasota County officials said the tanker was holding 8,700 gallons of fuel, and an estimated 250 to 500 gallons spilled.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred about 5:30 a.m. near Bee Ridge Road.

Traffic was being diverted at Bee Ridge Road. Troopers said about 5 p.m. that two lanes were reopened.

The driver of the tanker was airlifted to a local hospital with undisclosed injuries, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office said.

Four other cars were involved in the crash, but no injuries were reported.

Firefighters were called to the scene to spray foam over the spilled fuel, officials said.
