Tampa woman on bicycle dies in collision with pickup

Published:

A bicyclist was killed Monday night after she struck a pickup truck on Sheldon Road, just south of Waters Avenue, in Town ’N Country.

Hillsborough County sheriff’s deputies identified the victim as Carmen Ivelisse Pando, 26, of 2505 Orange Tree Loop, No. 101, Tampa.

Pando was riding a mountain-style bicycle without a head lamp south on the sidewalk on the east side of Sheldon about 8:30 p.m.

At that time, 25-year-old Michael Rueben Weaver, of Tampa, was in a 2008 pickup and leaving a service station at 8311 Sheldon.

Weaver had stopped, but when he began to pull onto Sheldon, Pando struck the passenger side of the truck.

Pando was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead, deputies said.

No charges were immediately filed as deputies determined alcohol did not play a part in the incident.
