Tampa Tribune and WFLA-TV reporter Michelle Bearden placed third nationally for local television religion reporting by the Religion Newswriters Association.
The award was presented Saturday night at the group's annual conference outside of Washington, D.C., where participants are focusing on faith and politics.
Bearden also was a finalist in two other categories in the RNA's annual contest — for her multimedia work and for the Cornell newspaper religion reporting award. She has twice won the group's Supple Religion Writer of the Year, which recognizes writing skills and grasp of the beat.
The RNA is a charitable, literary and educational organization whose purpose is to promote excellence in media coverage and in public discourse about religion. The group represents more than 500 members.
