A Tampa motorcyclist attempting to merge onto Interstate 75 died after he collided with a vehicle, flew onto the pavement and was struck by another vehicle, troopers said.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the crash occurred at 7:11 p.m. Sunday as 46-year-old Elmer Cecil Brown Jr. was on the entrance ramp to northbound I-75 at Gibsonton Drive.
The highway patrol said Brown’s Harley-Davidson crossed the painted median between the entrance ramp and the outside lane and was struck by a 2012 Nissan Rogue driven by Jorge Luis Torres, 70, of Sarasota.
Brown was ejected from his Harley and landed in the center lane of the interstate, where he was struck by a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Jessica Lynn Bryant, 23, of Tampa.
The Nissan, after the collision, traveled to the outside shoulder and hit with a concrete barrier wall, troopers said.
Brown died at the scene.
Torres was not hurt but his passenger, Petronila Del Carme Carcovich,70, of Sarasota, was taken to Brandon Regional Hospital with minor injuries, according to the highway patrol.
Bryant and her passenger, Phillip Russell Bryant, 25, of Tampa, were not injured.
Northbound I-75 was closed for two hours during the investigation.
