A Tampa man has been arrested on charges he robbed eight fast-food restaurants in Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco counties in a two-month period.
The United States Attorney's Office said Demetrius Renaldo Bowers, 28, armed with a semi-automatic handgun, robbed the restaurants between Sept. 23 and Nov. 4.
Authorities say the suspect wore a black ski mask and used a concrete block to shatter the restaurant windows.
Law enforcement officers say DNA recovered from a ski mask found after a robbery at a Papa John's on Gunn Highway in Tampa match Bowers, and further investigation placed Bowers at the scenes of the other seven armed robberies.
If convicted, Bowers faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 57 years in federal prison on firearms charges and a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison for each robbery.
