A 22-year-old Tampa man has been arrested and charged in an arson fire, Tampa Fire Rescue said today.

The fire began about 6 a.m. Saturday in a vacant home near 6008 N. 18th St. When crews arrived, the two-story, wood frame structure was fully involved, but firefighters were able to stop it from spreading to surrounding homes. No injuries were reported. Damage was estimated at $45,000.

Investigators determined the fire was arson and identified Brian Justin Gendron, 6009 N. 18th St. as the suspect. They said he entered the home and set fire to the northwest portion of the home. He fled the scene but was arrested later in the day, officials said.

He was charged with burglary and petit theft. He was released on $2,250 bond.

No further details were immediately available.
