Tampa General Hospital is expanding its primary care presence in the community.
The hospital's latest primary care site opens Monday at 2106 S. Lois Ave. – the former location of Florida Orthopaedic Institute.
The site will offer health care by appointment for everyone from newborns to geriatric patients, with services including minor procedures, routine examinations, well-woman checkups, well-child checkups and sports examinations.
"We wanted to expand our services in South Tampa, since this is our backyard," Jana Gardner, the hospital's vice president of ambulatory services, told a TGH publication.
The 4,249-square-foot center initially will be staffed with two doctors.
The center has nine examination rooms, two offices, a nurse's station and a break room.
It became clear another TGH primary care location was needed in the South Tampa area when the hospital's Kennedy Boulevard location was booked three weeks in advance of appointments, Gardner said.
TGH now has four primary care sites – including its Brandon site, which opened in May.
Those locations include: 2501 W. Kennedy Blvd.; 5802 N. 30th St.; and 214 Morrison Road in Brandon.
A center in Carrollwood is slated to open early next year at 13860 N. Dale Mabry Highway.
The Tampa General Medical Group Family Care Center will be open 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Florida Orthopaedic Institute, which previously was on Lois, moved months ago to 909 N. Dale Mabry Highway.
