Pinellas County deputies said today they arrested a fugitive from South Florida accused of shooting at officers during a police chase over the weekend.

Andy Roman, 23, was apprehended Tuesday in at McMullen-Booth Road and Crest Drive in unincorporated Clearwater, the sheriff's office said.

Hialeah police have been looking for Roman since they say he shot at officers who were investigating another shooting at a hotel.

Hialeah police previously arrested Osmani Marcel Ojeda, 22, in connection with the shootings. He faces charges including attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and was being held with no bail set.

Police say Ojeda was Roman's driver during the shooting.

Hialeah police said they chased a car driven by Roman and Ojeda in a Miami neighborhood. During the chase, Roman and Ojeda shot at police cars, police said.

Roman used an AK-47 and a sub-machine gun, which had been recovered by Hialeah police.

"A guy that dangerous, that is willing to shoot at armed police officers, is a menace to society and to the community," Hialeah police spokesman Carl Zogby told Miami NBC affiliate WTVJ-TV.

No other information was available.
