Authorities this evening reopened the southbound lanes of the Veterans Expressway after a U.S. Postal Service semi slammed into an overhead sign, bringing the steel structure crashing to the pavement.
The 6:26 p.m. wreck was minor, with no serious injuries, but caused a big backup, said Florida Highway Patrol troopers.
A construction vehicle pulled out in front of the postal truck, which swerved to avoid the collision and slammed into the support structure for the overhead roadway sign, troopers said.
The wreck occurred just north of the Hillsborough Avenue interchange.
By 9 p.m., the wreckage had been cleared and all southbound lanes were reopened, troopers said.
