A sinkhole found Thursday night at a Ruskin home has forced a family with children to evacuate to a friend's home, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue said.
The sinkhole measuring 7 feet long and 2 feet wide was located in the backyard about 10 feet from the home, 1303 3rd Ave. N.E. The depth of the sinkhole wasn't known because it was too dark to measure for safety reasons, said Nacole Revette, a fire rescue spokeswoman.
County officials were notified at 9:30 p.m. Firefighters arrived at the scene along with Hillsborough County Code Enforcement, which roped off the backyard and said it would revisit the sinkhole this morning, Revette said.
