Sarasota’s Riverview High School Kiltie Band is scheduled to march today in the New York City’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
More than 150 members, including bagpipers, flag guard and Highland Dancers, have made the trip for the 1½- mile march up Fifth Avenue.
It’s the nation’s longest running St. Patrick’s Day parade, dating to 1762, and draws more than 1 million spectators and about 200,000 participants.
“Marching in this parade is the culmination of months of hard work and dedication on the part of our students,” band director Mark Spreen said in a release from Sarasota County schools. “They’ve spent hundreds of hours preparing and practicing to ensure a perfect performance.”
The parade begins at 11 a.m. and can be seen online at http://nycstpatricksparade.org.
