Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies have charged a Riverview couple with trafficking in marijuana after discovering 50 pounds of pot in their bedroom.
Deputies developed information that Emory Lawson, 25, 13210 Prestwick Drive, was distributing marijuana. They put him under surveillance and saw him leave his residence today about 1:30 p.m. in a 1999 Lexus carrying a green bag.
Deputies followed him and attempted a traffic stop, but he drove into a yard at 12015 Butler Woods Circle and bailed from the vehicle and fled on foot with the bag, deputies said.
Lawson tossed away the bag; he was found hiding in a shed on the property. The bag was recovered by a K-9 officer.
Deputies returned to the Prestwick Drive address and contacted Lawson's girlfriend, Amy Ubinas, 22, who lives with him. She gave deputies permission to search the residence, and deputies said they discovered 50 pounds of marijuana in three duffle bags in their bedroom.
The marijuana was all packaged for distribution -- 62 baggies with a street value of $65,000, deputies said. Lawson had $12,497 in cash on him at the time of his arrest.
Lawson has been charged with trafficking in marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating a drug house, burglary to a structure, fleeing and eluding, and reckless driving.
Ubinas has been charged with trafficking in marijuana.
