Tampa boy, 14, shot, police asking for help

TAMPA — Police want to know who shot 14-year-old De’Nico Thomas after a night of playing video games.

Thomas was at a friend’s home Wednesday night and on his way home when Tampa police said he was shot, resulting in life-threatening injuries.

As he faces a third surgery at Tampa General Hospital on Friday, investigators asked for the public’s help finding the shooter.

"We need people to step forward with information to tell what happened," police Chief Brian Dugan said.

Thomas was alone when he was shot at about 11:55 p.m. When officers arrived he was found lying in the street near the 3100 block of E Cayuga Street.

Police believe whoever shot him was in a white sedan. Thomas was reported to be in serious but stable condition on Friday.

"We have very limited information," Dugan said. "That’s what is frustrating."

Police ask anyone with information about this incident to call (813) 231-6130. If they are reluctant to talk to police, the chief said they should speak to the neighborhood watch.
