RUSKIN — A 44-year-old man fleeing his 25-year-old girlfriend drove to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office seeking help Sunday, deputies said.
Diana Padilla got angry at Jose Rodriguez on Sunday afternoon after she became convinced he was seeing another woman, the agency reported. The two live together on Oceanside Circle in Ruskin.
Rodriguez, who does not have a valid driver’s license, got into a GMC Sierra and drove away and Padilla chased after him in a Dodge Dakota, sheriff’s spokesman Danny Alvarez said in a news release.
Padilla rammed Rodriguez during the chase, the spokesman said.
Just after 4:30 p.m. Sunday, deputies received a call that two vehicles were moving recklessly near the Sun City area.
A few minutes later, a deputy inside his car at the Ruskin sheriff’s headquarters saw two trucks speed into the parking lot.
"Help me, she is following me," shouted Rodriguez, who pulled up first.
Padilla got out of her truck and attempted to get into Rodriguez’s vehicle, Alvarez said.
"Both vehicles had damage from when Padilla struck Rodriguez in the door during her pursuit," Alvarez said.
Padilla was charged with aggravated battery of person using a deadly weapon. Rodriguez was charged with operating a motor vehicle without a valid license.
She was released on $5,000 bail. He was released on $250 bail.
Padilla previously served about four years in prison on burglary and grand theft charges.
