TAMPA — Two-year renewals on vehicle registration fees are being eliminated for now in Hillsborough County with state lawmakers approving a reduction of up to $25 per year in the cost.

This way no one will pay the higher fee in the second year. The cuts are a top priority of Gov. Rick Scott and he is expected to sign off on them.

The announcement about two-year renewals came from Doug Belden, Hillsborough County Tax Collector.

Based on last year’s number of biennial renewals, the fee reduction would mean a potential savings of over $2 million for the residents of Hillsborough County, Belden said.

Registrations can be renewed online at www.hillstax.org or at branch offices located throughout the county. More information is at (813) 635-5200.
