Prosecutors are scheduled to release a video taken from a school bus camera that shows a driver using her foot to push a special-needs student from the vehicle.
The video was due to be released this morning by the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office as part of the discovery process in the aggravated child abuse case involving Stephanie Wilkerson, 41. She was a bus driver for the Hillsborough County School District at the time of her arrest.
Police have said Wilkerson was driving special-needs students to Tampa Bay Boulevard Elementary School on Sept. 28 when the incident happened.
The 8-year-old student was trying to get off the bus when Wilkerson told her to wait her turn. That’s when the girl slapped and pushed the bus driver, police have said.
As the girl was standing on the steps to get off the bus, Wilkerson placed her foot against the girl’s back and pushed her from the bus, according to police.
The girl fell and broke a bone in her ankle.
Wilkerson, who was hired in August 2008 and earned $11.20 an hour as a bus driver, was fired in January by the school board.
