Q&A: Take Cass Street during RNC if you live downtown, work in Ybor

Q: I live in downtown Tampa at One Laurel Place, right off the I-275 Ashley exit. It is in the "Clean Zone." Will my access be restricted? How will I get to and from work in Ybor City?

Charles, Tampa

A: Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor has said residents of downtown who live north of Kennedy Boulevard should experience very few disruptions during the RNC.

Rules governing the Event Zone, formerly known as the "Clean Zone," don't put any restrictions on residents' access to their property. That said, there will be more traffic than usual on Ashley Boulevard in the late afternoons as hundreds of buses shuttle delegates to the convention and again at night as they leave.

If you commute to Ybor City during those hours, you might want to stick to Cass Street or some other route on the northern edge of downtown.
