TAMPA — It doesn't happen often, but a portion of Interstate 275 will be closed in both directions late Monday until early Tuesday.
The Florida Department of Transportation will close all lanes on the interstate at West Shore Boulevard from 11:30 p.m. Monday until 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. The closure will allow work crews to install a structure just west of West Shore that will span the interstate and hold road signs, said FDOT spokesman John McShaffrey.
Workers should be able to install the structure in the planned six hours, McShaffrey said. If the crew runs into a problem, the structure can be set aside and another installation date will be set, he said.
Commuters will still be able to use the West Shore Boulevard entrance and exit ramps, but vehicles won't be able to cross West Shore Boulevard on I-275 in either direction.
The suggested detour if traveling on northbound I-275 is to use Exit 39A, which is State Road 60 and Kennedy Boulevard. Follow it to West Shore Boulevard, make a left and use the West Shore Boulevard entrance ramp to get back on I-275.
If heading south in I-275, take the West Shore Boulevard exit ramp. Make a right to head north on West Shore Boulevard and turn left on Cypress Street to head west. Then turn left to get back on I-275 southbound.
