Hillsborough County commissioners voted unanimously today in favor of a process that may change how one of their number is elected.
The move would change the makeup of the commission to five elected from single-member districts and two elected countywide. The breakdown now is four from single-member districts and three countywide.
Commissioner Les Miller has pushed for the change, in part, to help improve representation on the board from Hillsborough’s minority communities.
Today’s vote for public hearings to be scheduled on the proposal.
Commissioners would then vote on whether to place the question on the November 2014 ballot. The change would require voter approval.
