A 30-year-old man was sentenced to more than 21 years in federal prison for forcing a 13-year-old girl to work as a prostitute in Tampa and Orlando.
Miguel Morancy, of Orlando, pleaded guilty July 3 to sex trafficking of a minor, according U.S. Attorney Robert E. O'Neill. He was sentenced to 21 years, 10 months by Judge Elizabeth A. Kovachevich last week.
According to court documents, Morancy was a "pimp" employing several prostitutes from 2007 until 2010. Several of the prostitutes were identified as juveniles, including a 13-year-old who told investigators she worked for Morancy in Tampa and Orlando from November 2007 to February 2008, O'Neill said.
The girl told investigators she gave all of her earnings to Morancy, who made her work seven days a week with little to no rest. She also told investigators that Morancy would beat her if she broke his rules, O'Neill said.
Morancy was also known as "Shadow," "Shadsky," "Shadizzle" or "Short," according to a federal indictment in May 2011. According to the indictment, Morancy recruited and coerced five girls younger than 18 to perform sex acts, often in Tampa hotels. He was also accused of advertising their services on the Internet.
