Authorities today identified the pedestrian hit and killed by a pickup Thursday morning in Pinellas County's Lealman community.

Andrew Thomas Johns, 56, of St. Petersburg was killed after walking into the path of a 2003 Ford F250 on 49th Street North just before 5:30 a.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Johns was walking outside of the crosswalk at 48th Avenue.

Johns later died at Northside Hospital in St. Petersburg.

The pickup's driver, Floyd Clutter, 60, of St. Petersburg, hit the brakes and tried to avoid Johns but couldn't.

Clutter was not hurt in the crash.

No charges have been filed, but the collision remains under investigation.
