A 48-year-old man was killed during a home invasion and robbery early Sunday at an Oakwood Estate duplex in Palmetto, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said.

Two other men were robbed, deputies said.

Juan Gonzalez-Albino was found dead due to a "traumatic injury" inside the duplex at the 900 block of 21st Street East, deputies said.

About 1:30 a.m., Gonzalez-Albino and two other men were sitting outside their duplex when three armed males approached them on foot, deputies said.

"The victims then instinctually started to retreat inside the duplex, when two of the victims were struck by the suspects with their weapons," the sheriff's office said in a news release.

The suspects fled on foot in an unknown direction, investigators said.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information was asked to call deputies at (941) 747-3011 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-634-TIPS (8477).
