Florida should be for the birds

Why are we Floridians standing by letting one of the few bird hospital and rehab centers for our beautiful and living native birds go under?

Yes, the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary has had ongoing financial problems, but where is the support from the wealthy individuals or companies, or the state and county government funds, when it comes to the rescue of these creatures? For years only the private, caring family founders of the sanctuary have stepped in for support. Are we just going to let it go under?

Most of the injuries to these creatures are caused by us. Examples: fishing injuries caused by swallowed hooks and tangled lines; car accidents; and, recently, unthinkable direct injury by guns used for sport on our native protected ospreys by bird killers.

For years the sanctuary educated the public, rescued and healed sick and wounded birds, and gave them a place for recovery.

So isn't it time for us to rescue them?
